A Perfect First Trip to Woodinville Wine Country

This past weekend, I took my first-ever trip to Woodinville, and it was also my first time wine tasting in Washington. Let me just say—Woodinville is such a great spot for a quick, easy getaway, especially if you love good wine, good food, and not having to overthink logistics.

We stayed at Willows Lodge, which turned out to be a pretty amazing choice. Right at check-in, they offer a glass of wine, which instantly sets the tone for the weekend. The hotel itself was beautiful and cozy at the same time. Our room had a fireplace, a soaking tub, and a balcony—basically everything you want when you’re trying to relax. On the grounds, there’s also a hot tub and a sauna, which made it feel extra spa-like.

Food-wise, Willows Lodge has its own restaurant, plus there’s another restaurant directly across the parking lot, so even if you don’t want to wander far, you have great options close by.

For wine tasting, we visited Januik Winery and Chateau Ste. Michelle—both of which were practically next door to the hotel. We honestly could have walked to them, which ended up being one of my favorite things about Woodinville. Everything is so close together that you don’t need to constantly get in the car, drive 10 minutes, park, repeat. It made the whole experience feel relaxed and effortless.

Dinner was at DeLille Cellars, and the food was very good. To my happy surprise, the portions were actually generous (which doesn’t always happen at winery restaurants). If you ever go and it’s on the menu, I highly recommend the steak and frites—so good.

Overall, Woodinville is a great way to spend a day and a night. One of the nicest parts is how walkable and convenient everything is. With reservations in place, good wine, and everything nearby, the trip felt easy and enjoyable from start to finish.

I’m definitely not a wine connoisseur, but I know what I like and what I don’t—and Woodinville made it fun and approachable without feeling intimidating. Plus, it’s not out in the middle of nowhere. There are still stores and shops nearby, so if you forget something or need to pick anything up, you’re covered.

All in all, it was a fantastic first visit, and I’d absolutely go back.
