Burger Seoul in Tacoma: Our First Visit, and Definitely Not Our Last

Sometimes the best food finds happen when you finally decide to stop at a place you’ve driven by a dozen times. That was the case this past weekend when I took my two kids to Burger Seoul in Tacoma for the first time.

My daughter was heading to a friend’s house in Tacoma, and we had about 25 minutes to kill. If you have kids, you know that 25 minutes is either an eternity or just enough time to grab some food, depending on the situation. This time, it was the perfect excuse to try somewhere new.

I’d driven past Burger Seoul multiple times, and every time I saw it, I thought it looked like a place I needed to check out. For whatever reason, I just hadn’t gotten around to it. Well, today was the day!

One thing I liked right away was that the menu had a nice variety. There were traditional smash burgers, Korean-inspired burgers, chicken options, different styles of fries, and even a couple of seasonal items. There was enough variety that everyone could find something that sounded good, which isn’t always an easy task when you’re ordering food with kids.

I went with the Superbulgogi burger. Honestly, anything with “Super” in the name sounds like a pretty good choice to me. The burger is essentially a burger with bulgogi sauce, giving it a Korean-inspired twist.

My son went with something I’d never heard of before: burger fries. These are fries topped with a burger patty, cheese, fire sauce, and some other sauce. Basically, imagine taking the burger bun away and replacing it with a pile of fries, then adding a bunch of toppings. I’m not sure how you could go wrong with that combination. My daughter went with a simpler option and ordered the garlic fries.

We all really enjoyed our food. My Superbulgogi burger was juicy and full of flavor, and it was a nice change from your typical burger. If you’re someone who likes trying different flavor combinations without straying too far from the comfort of a good burger, this is worth checking out. The garlic fries were also very good. They weren’t absolutely covered in chunks of garlic, which I know some people will appreciate. You still got that garlic flavor without feeling like you needed to brush your teeth immediately afterward. If you’re someone who wants a stronger garlic punch, they also have Super Garlic Fries, which might be more your speed.

And then there were my son’s burger fries. Those honestly might have looked the best out of everything we ordered. They were loaded with toppings and sauce, and they looked like the kind of thing you order when you want something a little more fun than a regular side of fries. We all thought they looked pretty good, and I may have to try them myself next time.

The best part was that everyone liked what they ordered. When you’re trying a new restaurant with the family, that’s always a win. Nobody had to stare at someone else’s food and announce that they should have ordered what the other person got. Well, at least not this time.

One thing I thought was pretty cool about eating inside Burger Seoul was the TV showing short videos of other food items on the menu. As we sat there eating, we watched the clips cycle through different burgers and other menu options. And, of course, that led to all of us spotting things we wanted to try next time.

It’s a pretty effective way to make people think about ordering more food when they’ve already got a full meal sitting in front of them. I respect the strategy. I also may have fallen for it completely. By the time we finished eating, we had already started talking about what we’d order on our next visit. That’s usually a good sign that a restaurant made a solid first impression.

Burger Seoul was a fun new find for us. The food was flavorful, the menu had plenty of options, and we all left happy. It also reminded me that there are probably plenty of great local spots I keep driving past without ever stopping to try.

So, if you’ve been driving by Burger Seoul in Tacoma like I had, maybe it’s time to give it a shot. Just be warned: you might go in knowing exactly what you want, watch the food videos while you eat, and leave with a completely different order planned for next time.
